In response to Bob DePino’s letter:
(1) The issue is assault rifles, which the founders did not envision, and which have no place in civil society.
(2) The great majority of gun deaths in VT are suicides; all the rhetoric in the world about use of guns for self-protection does not address that tragedy.
(3) Perhaps the major health problem in Vermont today is opiate addiction. Drugs come into our community and are exchanged for guns; since there is no control on gun purchases, mass sales are legal. The drugs destroy our communities, and the guns go to other cities and states to destroy theirs. Are we really incapable of addressing this in a rational way?
